That I understand, but if the picture was taken with nothing rotated than that would be the issue, what he can is rotate the crank until both yellow links and both dots on the sprockets are lined up. To make sure.they are.in correct.

yes, I have rotated the crank 4 times to make sure everything is working well. I also re-torqued everything down after I did that. I'll open it up later tonight for inspection.

Sounds like chain slap

Check to see if you lifted a rocker arm and dropped a shim.

So I opened her up today and checked internals for any signs of damage. I could not find anything but I confirmed that all shims are in place. Checked the cap bolt torque and all are fine (~8-9 ft lbs). Timing marks on the crank correspond to the location of the dowel pins at approximately 10 and 12 o'clock. I tried to re-torque cam gears but 1" wrench does not fit on the cams, I have to grind it down to make it work (the lobe's casting parting line is in the way of the wrench, so I have to make it narrower). I tried pressing the chain guide to check if tensioner is working, I used a long extension but when I was pressing on the chain (trying to compress chain guide and tensioner) it would not budge, can the tensioner be stuck?

I'll be removing the cams and sprockets later this week to check for any potential damage as 1FastP11 suggested.

Here is another video of the noise at rpm idle - 2K rpm.

Remove the tensioner, check for damage and or order a new updated one.

oh man....

take your tensioner out an test it be sure its working right, i've never had an issue with the tensioners but it Could happen.. what mark are you going by on the crank pulley? i use the 2nd from the left and it looks like yours is on the 3rd from the left.

it does sounds like chain slap i agree but to be sure take them out an reinstall them.. you want to be sure to put ALL cam caps back where they came from thats very important. im always very careful when doing that.

Also maybe have a friend turn the car over with the distributor unplugged (cuts power to the intjectors when u do that) and watch the engine turn over.

sometimes its hard to get the sprockets back on the cams an you gotta move the cam little bits at a time then thread the bolt in by hand as far as you can then very slowly tighten it with a socket making sure its going on evenly.

one more thing, run a compression test when your done hopefully you didnt bend a valve by having incorrect timing.

sorry to hear about your problems man.

The timing marks on the pulley vary depending how close you can get 10 and 12 o'clock on your sprocket marks.
First I'll take out the sprockets and put them back in, to verify that they were aligned correctly. The cam caps are in the correct locations with proper torque, my guess is tensioner or sprocket issue.
Wasn't the tensioner in VE's updated already?

yea it was suppose to be an upgraded style tensioner.. but i've seen several people shatter them.
