20V/Xtrail Supertech valve interest
Just want to see if there are any guys interested in getting some Supertech valves made for the 20/xtrail heads. I have spoken to supertech and was told the cost per valve would be $22 intake +1mm Stainless steel and exhaust $32 +2mm Inconel.

Almost all of the first guys that said that they were down flaked out. This time it will be a true group buy because I'm not funding this by myself again. All that's needed is to lock in 6 sets. The only option for bigger valves on the 20V head is to replace the guides with regular VE guides and running the valves that are on the market for that head but, the labor for doing that can cost aboout $500 for the labor alone.I rather get custom valves made.

I'm thinking of getting some valves with longer stems so shims can be eleminated. I keep popping shims on the intake cam, it's been reshimmed 3 times and it still does it.

The cross sectional area of a valve stem is much smaller than the shim which the rocker arm contacts and pivots on. Even if this was ok I'm not sure about the wear resistance of the valve material as the shims are case hardened. I think this would be a bad idea because of this but if you keep throwing shims there must be a reason. Plenty of engines never throw them out. Are your clearances all up to spec? Maybe if you are having to run really thick shims to get the clearances correct the wall on the retainer could handle being taller to hold them in better? Also if you aren't running up rated springs these may help if your valves are sticky which is the only reason I can think of that the clearance between shim and rocker could get large enough for them to jump out other than over revving. Also are the retainers damaged by having no shim being reused?

The retainers are fine, I've tried running thicker shims and the shim still comes out. I think I'll go with stiffer springs instead of going shimless.

Also worth checking the clearance with one shim per rocker inserted at a time. If one is too thin and because the rocker is held rigid by the rocker shaft you will still get the same cam lobe to rocker clearance even if the valve shim to rocker clearances are different for any given pair.
