You got all the time in the world to mess with this car thang... there's no rush. OG's never die and keep building whether it be themselves, their lives, their education, family, a house, etc. Wise man once told me there is nothing wrong with postponing my satisfaction and I took heed. Saving scrilla, doing things with the girl, getting education, fixing my house, still got TONS of shit to do... Cars are STILL here. Bike is STILL here. FRIENDS are STILL here. Taking a hiatus is not a withdrawl, nor is it a defeat. Not only will you appreciate it more, but it will definitely give you clear vision. Whatever you choose the community will back you up strong homie... oh shit no homo.

Dude... on a side note, building a standard VE is not a bad thing. Simple VE daily car is NO slouch. It's not a substitute for fast fast, but it will definitely hold you off. I think you should do a track day, or attend autocross with one.

Maybe this was a crank issue? Was the crank checked for roundness and sizing on the journal as well as oil clearances.

Is anyone else using the ebay crank vs the mazworx. I know the bigger stroke has got to put quite a side load on the bearings as well.

For those with the 2.4 builds, I wonder who is using the mazworx crank and who is using the ebay one. Even with the extra stroke the bearings should not have worn/spun that quickly unless there was an oiling problem or a clearance problem with the bearings or out of round on the journal.

i dont know exactly why it failed but this is what failed.

i had the motor running for 700-1000 miles prior to failure.

it made 260 give or take on the dyno. felt great.

on the way home it poped around 7-8k during a wot pull in third.

hole the block in the front and also in the back.

the rod broke above the big end and the big end was still attached to the crank.

the broken rods bearing was shot and so was one of the other rod bearings that also destroyed the journal of the inside of the big end.

with that being said the crank had two bad journals.

the broken rod managed to hit the bottom of the #3 piston and put a good gash/dent in it.

the head luckily was unharmed.

i dont know what failed, all other bearings appeared to look good. the motor also seemed to need water in the radiator regularly. a little here and there but it comp tested and leak down test checked out. temps jumped up during break in, to about 220ish and dropped back down, that never happend agian. it ran very cool and even cooler on the dyno due to the e85's cooling properties.

so thats it in a nut shell.

ill build another ve. thats for sure. not sure what direction or when, as of right now im looking foward to just romping on the car and enjoying a reliable set up.

picking up a ve this weekend !

stratton.

How much coolant did you filled during the time you ran the motor? Sounds like my problem too.

It may have been worth while to have the rods sized for gtir bearings to deal with the extra load.
