Also here is my build thread, I went from modded GA16DE to modded SR20DE to Modded SR20VE

Nissan Owners Club - South Africa - Nismo :: View topic - 160 SE to hybrid 200STI conversion -VVL Just kicked in

let me know what you think...

So set the cams to +2.5 intake \ - 2.5 exhuast then set the AFR's to the 13.2 -13.0 range?

leave the AFR where it is for now . if you have to do something is maybe rich it up a little. like i said . 12.7 - 13.1 range . the guy that tunes my car said that degree on cams doesnt change much the AFR .

I’m just basically playing with the cam gears to be honest. I want to get out as much as I can from my bolt on SR20VE.

And I hear setting the cam’s up (0\0) is the worst setting because of piston dwell and a few other factors.

Here is another post by Snicker (not sure if he is still on the forum) but I’m not sure if he is talking about a SR20VE with stock pistons or Sr16VE pistons.

The 1.6L just drop em in straight up and go from there. the 2.0 you idealy need the exhaust retarded about -7 and IN +2 is the best but because there isnt enough air flow for mas top end and usually people run a cheesy header, i tell em to go +4 intake to gain more midrange.

the -7 exhaust wont clear stock pistons so stick to -5. -6 is really close on valve to piston clearance. You have to go so far off because the cam actually has more duration than needed and the exhaust valve actually opens before the piston is halfway down the bore. by opening the exhaust valve later, you gain a higher BMEP in the cylinder ( the actual force pushing the piston down the bore) and thus gain more torque. The early Exhasut valve opening is for higher RPM power and on longer rod motors to account for the extended piston dwell time at BDC.

The problem with my set-up is the header but compared to local here the quality and the price of the SSAC header is amazing.

I’m not going to be upgrading the intake to a N1 because I hear there is almost no gain on the SR20VE, Is this true? I am looking for a 70mm throttle but they are price and the Q45 TB is over-kill.

Any Suggestion on my set-up are welcome, I’m learning as I go. I’m also not sure if Mike Kojima is still on the forum? Because I want to set my VE up like his Dog 2 race car.

Thanks again guys, The info is welcome.

before my engine was tore down for rebuild, i ran it at +5/-6 with n1 cams. where to set YOUR gears depends on where YOU want power. i dyno'd +2/-5 then +5/-6 back to back.
the engine gained as much as 5whp/5wtq from 2.5k to 7.5k at the latter setting. the difference from 7.5k to 8k was about a map trace width (maybe 1hp) less. a fair trade off in my book this is with a ASP budget header. yrmv.

is there any gain with that cam setting? and what S/R are you using stock 20VE?

Why not go and speak to DERM. He is in Centurion and had a lot of succsess with these engines. He also builds badass extractors, got his own dyno and fabricate what he cant buy.
