If the motor is in time and is making compression then there should be no reason that motor shouldnt fire right up.

You will occasionally have your unforeseen issues like having rod knock but that was generally an issue with the det motors as they are usually heavily used motors. But de's and ve's dont generally have those issues as they are usually babied. Again 12 different motors ranging from de's, ve's, and rwd det's and ive yet to get a bad motor or hell even a motor that had any problems. If the company is a legit honest company, you wont get crap motors. They wont sell them. Motors like that will be stripped and parted if they run into problems with them during their testing.

ummmm no u cant Guarantee... all that other ish is irrelevant hence why when ppl have all these issues with their cars yet their compression test produces great results yet car runs like **** and blows up.. so NO u cant guarantee it.. even if u built the motor yourself, u cannot guarantee it will not blow up the 1st time u drive it/ run it etc...... ish happens... so again to the o.p. good luck.. and this guy ashton made a few valid points, yet even still a clean motor doesnt mean a good 1... thats the thing with building these p.o.s. cars, u gotta take chances and hope for the best, either way ive had numerous JDM motors from DET to Ve and honestly i havent had a problem yet, but that doesnt mean others dont... have a nice day

Again a good company will offer a legit warranty on their motors. Companies like Tiger Japaneese which soo far is the only one ive heard of that people are getting crap motors from and then being pushed around trying to get a good one from them in exchange for the junk one sent.

Like i said there could be unforseen issues but there is a lot of things that can be done to ensure the motor is healthy and been treated correctly.

I saw many many pics of different peoples motors that they got from Tiger Japanese and honestly a simple inspection of the basic things could have told you there was issues with the motor or turbo and so on and should have never been sold to the customer.

The companies that take pride in their motors and service will very rarely ever get an unhappy customer and when they do they take care of them and its always for something unforseen such as rod bearing issues or something internal like that that doesnt affect compression of the motor.

Your correct when saying you can never fully 100% gurantee but you can come darn close if you do the simple basics when looking over a motor pre-sale.

I am going to be helping Noah with the VE swap, and we have full access to a nice shop with lifts and all the right tools. No matter where the motor comes from, it is going to get a full inspection before installation. I know that ordering from eBay can be sort of iffy, and the few places we were looking at purchasing from a few of you guys have already mentioned good things about. We are still keeping Miko in mind, and if things work out, that would be a great source for a motor, but this is also a budgeted swap to an extent. I'll post pictures later of what happened to his DE, it was nasty

Thanks for all the input though guys, this is what we wanted to hear. Ideally we are going to have his engine ordered in the next week or two.

A questions we've been trying to figure out is if we absolutely need the MSD rpm switch to activate the VVL, or if we went with a NEO SAFC if that would suffice as I believe it has built in support for the V-tec engagement for Honda. Would the NEO SAFC do the trick, or will we definitely need the MSD switch?

It should work, but I do not think you would be able to control intake and exhaust individually. They would both pop at the same time. If that is good or bad is up to you.

The neo is fine. It will just trigger both cams. Simple hookup and setting.

Right on, if we ever want to switch them at different times we could do that later I suppose. Thanks for all the help everyone! We both appreciate it
