If you can build a motor yourself then the Ebay risk is whatever. Heads are selling for what like $600-$800. If the block is garbage but the head is still good just look at it as you are buying a head, and have a rebuildable block to go with it. If you need certainty and just want to drop it in with no heavy work on your end, then yeah going with a more trusted seller is a better bet.

I bought mine from Riworx for $800CAD. Even with shipping to the motherland it was cheaper than me importing one from Japan myself. I knew it wasn't going to be box fresh but I was going to do a full rebuild anyway, so wasn't too bothered.

Personally if I can't see the engine in person I won't buy it. I would sugesst buying one of the forum if you do by someone with a good rep.

i've gotten 2 engines from ebay an 1 from miko, they were all in similar condition an i have had 0 problems with either of them.. the two ebay companys i bought from were that nagasaki place from BC canada an that jdm engine corp out of texas

hmmm yeah i checked out the jdm place from texas but i think shipping was out the ass. what was the total for each buy? was there a major difference in price?

the shipping from the one from texas was free.. i paid 900.25 to my door.. engine was in great shape..

the place from canada i paid 1250 to my door.. engine came with a dented oil pan and broken tps..

the 16ve SWAP i got from miko was i think 2100? but that included engine, tranny, wiring, ecu and maf.. the little pointer that points to the crank pulley was bent (which was easy to fix) the TB was busted, and the fpr vac port on the manifold was busted.. non of that was really a big deal.. an im sure if i wanted to cry about it miko would of replaced what ever i needed but it wasnt an issue..

my point is dont be afraid to buy from ebay just stay with the known companys that people buy from.. an theres nothin wrong with supporting another forum member an buyin from him, even gives ya a little reassurance cause he'll help ya with whatever ya need

buying a motor is hit or miss u might buy a dud for 1100 but a jem for 650.. no1 person on these forums can tell u or guarantee to u that the motor will make X amount of power or that it will even start or run... my advice is go to ur local motor importer and pick out the cleanest looking motor there, and even then just cuz its clean doesnt mean its not a dud... I bought mine off jdm engine zone for like 900 and it runs incredible.. so again its a hit or miss with not just Ebay, its with buying anymotor period, even from a junkyard.... charge it to the game and try ur luck.... Ve FTW... good luck on ur decision....

^^^^Um yes you can gurantee the motor will start and run if properly looked over. All it takes is compression, fuel and spark. As far as mechanicly you can pop the valve cover, take a look at the condition under it and if its been well taken care of it will show. If its been abused and neglected that will show. If the motor is in time and is making compression then there should be no reason that motor shouldnt fire right up.

You will occasionally have your unforeseen issues like having rod knock but that was generally an issue with the det motors as they are usually heavily used motors. But de's and ve's dont generally have those issues as they are usually babied. Again 12 different motors ranging from de's, ve's, and rwd det's and ive yet to get a bad motor or hell even a motor that had any problems. If the company is a legit honest company, you wont get crap motors. They wont sell them. Motors like that will be stripped and parted if they run into problems with them during their testing.
