BTW my previous engine was de/ve mutt, but I had to swap in sr20ve oistons because my DE was a 10:1 and the valves would not clear, not even close.

Car put down 197whp, 243 with a 50shot of nitrous, 288whp 13lbs with a t25. All on the same motor.

If you take a look at the 20VE pistons they look just like the DE pistons, same dish and all, except for the very small valve reliefs. These cannot make that much of a difference in CR, and if anything the DE will have a hair more compression.

The head difference is around 47cc vs 43cc.

It is possible to run a DE/VE with 16VE cams but dont you ever mis a shift while drag racing. If you drag race, you realize this is a real risk.

Dang just realized a whole VE is 700 bucks...that's crazy, I thought they were closer to 12-1300.

I agree. I bought two ยด97 VE engines for ~800usd and both works great.

quick question as i am looking to buy a 96 g20 currently for my DD and i am wondering the same thing:

wouldn't it be better to buy the sr16ve engine tranny combo? you get the better gearing of the 16ve tranny (which would make an even larger difference in the p10 chasis) and then you already have the 16ve head and cams to swap over if you wanted to?

i know it's more work overall, but i think that this would be best for the tranny alone.

That's a lot of work, but you could put together a beast of a P10. You'd want to at least have the pistons in the sr20de block that you used milled down with valve reliefs, or risk it with the stock pistons...it'll be a close call with the 16ve cams. It would cost about the same and be less work to but a 20ve, 16ve cams, and a better trans separately on the forum...that's what i've concluded through this thread and other research.
