I did 3" at Dre's insistence. I used to grouse about the racket but a downturn tip seemed to help (altho some folks think it's dorky). I'm also running the Magnaflow hi-flow cat, resonator and a 5*7 muff. If quiet rather than ultimate output is a higher priority, many have said the 2.5" is less loud (NOT quiet). If you're not running a cat or resonator, you likely want to run a 1" pipe - - - -

Agreed.......

Will the 3" WS2 (no cat, no resonator) be extremely loud? what about @4k highway speeds? Would I be able to talk with passengers? If it is girls that talk too much, I guess I wouldn't mind the loudness. haha

I have a vrs 3inch, with 2.5ssac, and a ws2, with stock cat. If you do any research on this topic (already beaten to death), the stock cat flows pretty good, and cuts noise allot, and (yes none of you probably care) makes our emissions allot less of a contribution to greenhouse gasses.

I find my exhaust to be extremely manageable under 5k. Highway it is still easy for me to talk or listen to music, or whatever. The ws2 is exactly what I wanted. In Maine, they are pretty strict about noise, and I have passed countless cops with no issues what so ever. The ws2 is the quietest muffler I have ever heard on a 3inch, and has one of the deepest notes for a n/a car.

Everyone has their own opinion, but when people ask why the 3inch is better? Because experts have continually proven with dyno charts that a 3inch makes more power and sacrifices no torque on the sr20ve motor. It's that simple, end of story, the constant threads popping up still baffle me.

Lastly, not to be redundant (I have posted this like 50 times in last week because of the constant questions concerning this setup) but here is a quick clip I made for just this question in hopes of helping people. I will make the comment that over 5k i get a raspy noise which I am attributing to not having a resonator and a failing cat. Other then that (if you don't like raspy) I love the setup. Notice how its not very loud inside the car (by my standards) and still manageable with no droning exhaust noise that hurts you ears.

That's a result, not an explanation. It's like saying, "It's making more power because it's making more power."

i was more just wondering about others opinions at present day. I know 3" NA will be loud.
Since I'm used to 3" DET(not loud at all), I was just thinking how much louder a 2.5" NA esp. when VLL kick in. I'm expecting the 2.5" to be louder, I just dont know by how much.

i think loudness will do with who or how theehaust is made and the parts used...

3'' can be quiet if done right

ended up getting a 3". Not loud at all except WOT and of course when VVL kicks. Driving on highway, I just have to stay constant speed under 4k and my ears wont ring. I expected it to be louder, but like you said, if its done right

My question would be, which size makes more power under the curve? 2.5 or 3"?

People always talk peak power, but it won't make much sense if you see a peak power gain but nothing else in the curve. Most VVL'd cars aren't race cars that use the higher end of the power band, they're usually daily drivers. I would think most people would want more power spread across the lower part of the powerband.

I probably will be dynoing my car soon, I will post mine, and if someone has same setup w/ 2.5" feel free to post it too.
