SR20de Red top & VVL Head?
Can the SR20ve head bolt up to a red top SR20de (comes in the European Primera) without changing to 20ve pistons?

I THINK the Red Top 20de comes with 10:1 CR (even though I heard its' 10.5:1). Can someone please verify?

Thanks.

Peace

Search pls man. Seems like this question gets asked eveery day now.

Yes you can. Drop it right on and run an external oil line for the vvl...

You should be ok with stock sr20ve cams, but nothing bigger. I would definitely check the clearances yourself though, it's going to be tight with flat top pistons and no reliefs.

Is the primera red top de any diff then our des?

Because I kno stock cams and sr16 cams are safe with standard de motors. But you can not go larger then that.. but like I said maybe there 10.0:1 de have less piston to valve clearance

Cory I am not asking about the De/ve swap, I am asking about the red top 20de as it relates to valve clearance as I heard its 10.5 to one and as Jer says, it's flat top in the 20de vs notched in the 20ve.

Obviously I know your talking about a head swap.....notice I mentioned the external oil line. From de block to ve head. I guess I didn't realize the redtops had less clerance then the standard de's. In that case sorry idk. But on a regular 9.5:1 de your good to go drop it on and go. Just don't run larger then sr16 cams

As you know our de pistons have a slight dish, the 10:1 pistons are totally flat.

Personally I wouldnt even use the 16ve cams with 9.5:1 or 8.5:1 pistons without reliefs. I have seen small knicks from the valves in oem 8.5 pistons, and 8.5 cp pistons a couple years ago with a local guy using 16ve cams at 0,0.

I know there are people doing it and getting away with it, but it's just too close for my tastes.

Ok. Respect.

Guess checking the clerance manually is an option as well.

Thanks.
