i rev 9k on stock valve springs and retainers and never had this problem? On N1 cams as well. I know its not reccomended but still I dont do it all the time.

Same here. I know lots of guys revving the piss out of VE's on a daily basis. They take the abuse and ask for more!

My Ve head was loaded with sludge from when I bought it, so I am assuming that caused the premature failure ad honestly should have been dealt with from the beginning, but.....

I am now going back to sr16 cams because honestly i like them better and enjoy the power delivery better. I really don't have the room to rev to 9K anyway.
