first gear wont hold
I recently noticed that when i park my car on a hill in first gear with the hand brake down the car rolls and stops and then rolls and stops every two seconds.
What could cause the first gear not to hold the car stationary on a hill?

it's not an automatic, if the amount of slop to the hill is enough it will roll that's why there is a handbrake/parking brake in the first place.

Depending on how steep the hill is, it just happens. Done a compression test lately?

Ok i will test with another car like mine on the same hill and see. I was told it could be compression but wouldnt i feel it if the car had compression problems.

Exactly, parking the car in gear will help the park brake do its job but is not a good substitiute for the park brake.
The stop start effect is gravity opposing the compression.

THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT A BRAKE! use the hand brake while parking.
