It's not possible to run rich with the stock ecu.
Plugs indicate engine's condition at last seconds of operation.
If engine is sitting, plugs will be black.

Make sure you use stock static timing at 5 degress.
It would be nice if you could hook up consult and see what's going on.
Have you wired back the speed signal from cluster to ecu?
Ecu does not activate vvl without speed signal and also runs with lower rev limit.

VE ecu it tunable, for details see here.

my revs are lower than the stock ecu it goes up to bout 7200 and im using the vvl ecu so im not sure what the problem is i havent done anything to it and it was running fine before so im not sure why its running that way it sucks because i cant drive it anywhere there is always smoke everywhere not alot but you could smell it and im using a direct wire connector button thing for my vvl so yeah i have to hold it in order for it to activate

if u r SURE that u running rich on the stock setup then i would say check the fpr and see if its stuck or something...... double check the maf ecu and injectors to make sure there the rite ones

I'm sorry but this does not sound like an ecu issue mostly an engine issue.
Check compression at every cylinder...
