To you motor yankin guru's...
Got a b14 with a ve in it. Its gonna wind up in my nx.
Want to pull [not drop] out the motor with the tranny as 1 piece. Going to northern tool and get the attachment to the lift to tilt it out.
BUT..... what I really need to know where to attach the chains to lift it out. Any help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.... Mike

the places i use to attach the chain are on the head it self. i use the alt adjustment bracket mounting points and on the other side of the head i use some open bolt holes by the valve cover vent. the pic i have here shows ruff placement of the chain. just make sure when you attach it to the hoist that you center the hoist more to the trans side than centered on the engine to help equalize the load.

Dude, don't go out the top! Going out the bottom is waaaay easier. You just need a mover's dolly. Read this (lots of pics):

The other swap I just finished, I put the hoist to the side (to lift up the car) and it was even easier:

I attached the chains to the intake manifold and exhaust manifold. Then I used the load leveler to pull the motor and tranny out through the top with the hood off. You have to becarful not to hit the wind shield. You can also drop it under the car and pull it out on a jack.

Wasn't sure if the holes would withstand the weight, but now I know, Thanks

Maybe the easiest way to go with the manifolds. Once again, didn't know if it would tear up anything. I'm kinda winging it as I go along. Read all thru here, but each has their own way of making it work. Enlightment is a wonderful thing!!!

There is several writeups on installation, but I haven't seen my situation of going from a b14 to 13. By looking at the wiring, looks to be a learning curve for sure.
Any input I get from anyone is appreciated!!!!!

it is easier but the only issue is getting the car up high enough and how to move the motor once it on the ground. the dolly works great if you have one and a pallet jack is good too. I have done it both ways but I usually end up go through the top just because I don't have to mess with getting the car up so high which can be a issue in a garage. the last time I did it I lowered the car with the engine lift hooked up and then pulled the motor out. The only thing I don't like about this method is removing the hood and the chance of busting the wind shield.

The axles are giving me a hard time, might try it out of the bottom. But damn, that thing is high!!!
And yes, it is in the garage, half in and half out. Not worried about the windshield, gonna part it out then junk the shell.... Mike
