over revved my 20ve W/ N1s... its broke :/
well i have been running my SR20VE with N1 cams for about 2 years now without even the slightest problem. in fact my swapped B13 has been the most reliable car I have ever had even with daily abuse and a couple weekends at VIR under its belt. Anyways, this week I miss-shifted from 3rd gear at about 8k into 2nd gear for just a split second before i caught it and pushed the clutch back in. car sounded fine and ran fine with full power for a few miles then the oil pressure guage started bouncing from 0 to 50psi and then just stayed on 50 the way it was bouncing i figured the jar of the miss-shift messed up the sending unit or something and since the car checked out under the hood and sounded fine i drove it home. started it up today and no oil pressure and i could hear a faint humming sound so i turned it right back off. the oil pan is full and nothing in the motor seems broke so what do you guys think? would over revving it mess up the oil pump?

sorry for the long post but I dont know where to start on this.

secondly since its just a fun car/track car im not worried about driveability i would like to chat with someone on here who has experience with a high compression, light internals, full race VE. i want to stay NA but want to go pretty extreme if i end up having to rebuild this motor now that i have had this oil issue.

Yikes, sounds like an oil pump problem. I don't know how that would affect the pump unless something internally broke.

what kind of oil pressure gauge are you running and what is the max pressure it reads. I killed multiple autometer sending units due to ve making over 100psi and the sending unit only being good to 100psi. I switched to prosport and have not had a issue since.

I have problems with my cheap Faze gauge bouncing around a bit sometimes. Especially at higher rpms when cold. Oil pressure gauge pegs out and starts bouncing.

i thought it may be the guage at first too but the type of guage is irrelevent now because the motor really dosnt have oil pressure the head is bone dry and because i thought the guage was just bad i ran it for a little while and it started makeing a humming noise and the head never got any oil.

I'm not sure how similar SR's are but doing this on a RB often causes trouble with the pump drive on the crank and can sometimes crack the pump gear I believe. I saw a RB26 being rebuilt after a similar incident (calculations indicated it saw about 12500 rpm but perhaps for a longer time) and the rods had bent slightly so had to be replaced, can't remember if other components were affected.
Anyway good luck getting it sorted.

your pump gear is shattered, trust me, they are very fragile and it doesnt take much to break an oil pump gear. I had a buddy with his h22 vtec do the same thing and when they pulled apart the oil pump it was in several pieces. Was not a good thing. New oil pump went on and the oil pressure was fine and then a couple months later the engine threw a rod out the block. lol. But it was making some knocking noise from what the guy said even after the new pump, so it more than likely spun the bearing.

You probably didnt spin a bearing as the ve's are not known to do this very often. But you more than likely broke the pump. I can bet money on it.

Well throw a new pump in and crank her up see how it goes! Sucks to hear dude, its just a bad luck plague that any of us can get hit with. Keep your spirits up and get her back on the road!

pressure should change with different oil temps.

if after that he did not spun a bearing I'm really impressed on the reliability of the VE
