Hey, thanks for starting this thread. Im planning on getting rid of my 2.25" cat back system but, as I have a SSA manifold + downpipe....should I get them to do the 3" system all the way to where it goes 4-2? And lose the flexi part?

Cheers

So far every shop I've spoken to tells me I'm mad to want to run a 3" on a N/A 2000cc car. Bear in mind it will be full mandrel bend.

(anyone ever managed to post up a 2.5" vs 3" dyno of the same motor?)

You're not a Guinea Pig, I have a 3" mandrel bent system from directly off the end of my Fuji headers.
One 3" reso, and a 3" muffler, passes (just) our local sounds restrictions.

It has 140kW at the wheels (someone step in here with the correct conversion to WHP).

I was also told that I was crazy, and my exhaust guy reluctantly fabricated the mandrel bent exhaust.
To my, and his amazment; massive improvement.

What ever you decide to do, best of luck.

140 KW = 187 HP

187whp mate. I suppose the noise depends on the rear silencer more than the whole system. I have a slightly boy racer 4" back box at the mo....and the noise is giving me industrial deafness. I think a 3" system with a 3" back box should be ok.

Once the exhaust is collected into a single pipe you should flare it out to 3", but not sooner. Don't replace a 2-into-1 transition with 3" pipe or a 3" Y pipe of some kind.

some exhuast shops think people are crazy for running 2.5" Just ask them if they want money or not! show them the specs of N1 cams to prove your crazy enough

Most just don't understand the physics and dynamics behind why the ve "likes" the 3inch exhaust. Rest assured, from stock to fully modified, a 3inch is THE way to go buddy.

Be careful who you tell you have a 3inch, they might assume you are stupid. Little do they know..

if sound is a factor try getting a larger barrel muffler this will give the tone a more deeper note than loud. thats why i love the oval pans they still look great and supress the sound
