Got a Dyno Today
got to a dyno today. two runs at a dyno day. i'm a little disappointed, they didn't take the runs above 7000rpm like a said. i'm definitely going elsewhere next time.

the first run the cams come on at 5600 and the second at 5400. the base timing was at 19* both runs just to see (this is with a calum basic). both done in 4th gear also.

what are the thoughts on the air fuel ratios? any way to stabilize them? they were taken through a tail pipe sniffer it that makes a diff. also what is the ideal ve afr?

next time i'm going to have the shop go to 8000rpm, i already changed the base timing back to 15* so i'll get a reading there, and i want to have the runs in 3rd gear (is that the best?).

the chart is below, and the print out says its sae .94. (what does that mean?) domiken ran this car at 174hp and 134ft-lb (with safc tune w/ very stabil afr around 13.5) his chart says sae 1.0

yeah looks like the a/f could use a little work, but other than that its pretty solid. A/f 13.5:1 range, above 5200 your really dipping down into almost turbo a/f ratios, your a/f below that looks decent. But you should really try to get them at least around the 13.0 range. you will notice a nice gain from that alone. With your mods i would have figured in the 185whp range.

And defintely tell them to do the dyno in 3rd gear wherever you go, most shops do 3rd gear all motor and 4th gear turbo. it doesnt make a whole lot of difference it just tends to be a bit better for the application.

how do i go about working on the afr? if some one has a bin i can compare that would be great.

could the lack of a correct exhaust be hurting the afrs too? i forgot to mention that. the header is an old pacesetter (i believe) de header and factory piping to dynomax muffler.

yeah, if your still running a stock exhaust except for the header and muffler, i would say that is whats causing it to go rich also. The ve just doesnt have the flow it needs through that, i didnt see that part of your setup. I guarantee with my stock ve cams and ssac 2.5" header running straight open im probably making more power than you with your sr16 cams. I have a 3" short ram with pop charger, gregv pullies, fidanza flywheel, and that ssac header. My car straight up pulls. i might be doing a dyno here in the next week when we go to dyno my buddies 2.2L 12:1 compression build im sure youve seen.

Im gonna dyno mine and look at some timing adjustments, i have it at 15* right now to start, im gonna see what differnce it makes from there to 19* then to 21-22*. From what ive read the ve really likes timing. So ill try it out on a dyno and see what gains or losses there are with timing added. Keep a look out for that.

Defintly upgrade exhaust to at least, bare minumum manderal bent 2.5" or best 3", Im waiting on getting a 3" secondary/collector made for my ssac primaries. Want to see what it can really do.

This should give you some insights:

Tuner Pro has more capabilities than ROM Editor, which is discussed in this thread, but ROM Editor will get the job done. You will need a wide band air fuel ratio set up and a way to burn new ROM chips.

ok i pulled my plugs today and they are fouled up (dry carbon, all cylinders). i'm not sure why they would be. i've done all the mpg things, o2 sensor, plug wires, dist cap & rotor, coolant temp sensor, set tps, set timing, reground maf, fixed knock sensor.

the car idles fine and seems to run great, to me. is there any reason to not try a 5 (hotter) plug? could it be that i don't run it hot enough to warrant a 6?

i'm going to get another set of ngk 6 and 5. i'll try the 6's and see if they foul too, then the 5's.

sorry to drag up an old thread, but i saw that this guy has very similar mods to me and pretty much the same power as me. are my AFR's too rich after 4000rpm? (orange line)

the only difference in mods is my exhaust is mandrel 2.5" and i have my cams switching at 4600/5000. what is the best base timing with these mods?

Make a new thread, please.

As for the stuff above, so no one gets the wrong idea, you should always try to pull on the dyno in the gear that is closest to 1:1 ratio (to avoid extra parasitic losses). For us that's 4th gear. For most cars that's 4th gear.
