Changing cams and checking to see if motor is on timing.
Let me see if I can do this.
To Do This Job Right You Will Need Tools, A Metal Hanger And White Out.
There is one main rule NEVER TURN MOTOR WITH TENSIONER OUT, NEVER !
1. Take off valvecover, Distributor and remove spark plugs.
2. Rotate Motor Clock wise via the crank shaft. You are doing this to line up the motor to true TDC. For this to happen you will need to use the white out to mark the motor. There is one dot on each cam gear. Take White out and put on the dot. This is done to make it beter seen. As you rotate the motor you will notice that there are 3 coloured links, 2 of the coloured links that are about 11 links apart. These are the 2 links we will be working with. On VE motor they are usually Yellow and DE motors they are Black. If the links are not highlighted enough put whiteout on them.
Your goal here is to rotate the motor until the 2 coloured links are above the 2 dots on the cam gears. This can take a maximum of 40 rotations. Once this is done make sure the exhaust cam gear key is at the 12 O'clock position. You can now make sure that the motor is at TDC by looking down at the crank shaft pully and timing light pointer and make sure it is over the 0 mark on the crank shaft pully.
3. Once you have gotten to this point you can now take the chain tentioner out.
Motor is now at TDC and the cams are ready to come out. When changing cams change one at a time. This means take one out and put new cam in. Then work on the next cam. Never take both cams out at the same time.
I will try and finish this later.
