On aluminum I always use a razor with light pressure and for the grooves I use a small screwdriver with pressure and it comes right out. On the lower metal pan I use the wire wheel on a porting too...
I don't think they are trying to make money off of the classes. I'm sure it's more about people buying the hardware. You don't need to go to the class to use it but I'm sure the class will help you...
