B13 Exhaust Hangers
B13 exhaust hangers are another project I’ve been working on lately. I was asked to make a set for a fellow forum member a lil while ago and these are the cliff notes of the parts taking shape.

I pulled the original hangers off my b13 and started to duplicate them. The design intent was to serve the intended purpose and also make fabrication possible with current tooling. Bending and punching parts from raw stock is out, so they must be made from sheet metal and tubing.

My first design attempt was to laser scan them and try and import the scanned data into Solidworks as useful CAD data. I used a home brew scanner setup along w/ David Laser Scanner software and calibration panels to capture the exhaust hanger exterior profiles.

Here's one of the hangers as scanned. Meshlab was used to tweak the original scan data before trying to port it into Solidworks.

Unfortunately, I was never able to able to import the scan data into my current Solidworks software w/ out reducing the data quality . No big deal though. The scan data was viable, so I ran it through the 3D printer @ work.

It seems to be pretty accurate for a DIY setup!

Bummer, I have good laser scan data, but no way to use it. I guess the exhaust hangers have to be recreated by hand old school like. Time to grab the calipers and mock them up in Solidworks keeping the original design intent in mind.

The prototype models are done, the cut paths are programmed, and it's time to cut them out of sheet on the plasma table.

The prototypes

These were installed on the ol b13 earlier this week and fitment is pretty good. After a couple of small changes, they will be good to go

I modded them and test fit the final configuration on the b13 earlier this week...and they are ready to ship

muffler hangers

I couldn't get a good shot of the other hanger (near catalytic converter) due to poor lighting

Oh man, I bought all of these OEM new a while back, but one of the muffler hangers was no longer available, and seems to be out of production. (The one at the back of the muffler for triangulation.)

Is is possible to purchase these separately? I would love to have the rear muffler one!
