Calum Realtime ECU availability
I was interested in getting an RT ECU from Calum and I didn't see a waiting list/status/availability thread on them yet. So I figured I would make one.

Calum, I sent you 2 emails about getting a 98 b14 RT setup. We were also talking about it a month or so before then. Let me know, thanks.

I did a search on the old forum and couldn't find anything definite and couldn't find anything in Calum's section, and hey, this would be good for all of us n00bs here, how does the Realtime ECU work? If you already have a Calum ECU, is there some kind of conversion?

I don't know HOW it works, but i know that you can basically change any setting on the ECU in real time via serial port.

The Calum realtime uses a serial or USB port to connect to a computer. Tuning can be done "on the fly" as the engine is running. I don't believe there is a conversion that can turn the ROM based ECU to the real-time unit.

Pat...
its a different board. you could do the swap yourself...or just send it to calum. But the classic to the realtime is just a different daughter board.

to use it, you have a usb cable coming out of the back of the ecu. you plug that into a windows laptop and use tunerpro rt to modify the roms. stuff like emutil is a nice downloader and uploader. nissandatascan also works over the same usb cable. he emulates two com ports on the one usb connection. one to talk to the flash roms and one to talk to consult activity. so with it you can do all the consult stuff over usb.

its nice to have atleast one realtime among friends, as you can tune with it then burn your rom to a set of chips and put them in your car. so if you have more than one car, you in theory only need one realtime...but swapping ecus can get tiresome if you tune a lot.

I showed Matt(maddmatt) a little bit of how it works at the ARRC while i was working on Greg's car. I think i got him interested as well .

So, no there isnt any way to convert your board. but you can convert your ecu...heck get another ecu and put it in there. but with tunerpro rt in emulation mode, you can fine tune things as you go then save out the rom for posterity. Id like to make it out to a North VA dyno day sometime and show it to people...im kinda trying to help my friend calum out and such by being another person able to give the realtime a bit of a demo. I know Ill be heading up sometime to tune Joe's car before the season but thats probably too far for you to come out.
