I'm confused, do you need to run a map ecu to run e85? What are the necessary mods to convert?

You need to be able to control the amount of fuel the injectors deliver with a fuel piggy-back, ECU daughterboard or full stand-alone. Something like SAFC isn't going to cut it. You don't need a MAP sensor, a MAF could work too. In theory JWT could tune you for E85 or a Calum ECU could accomplish the job.

Generaly speaking JWT does not like the idea of using E85. The genleman that I spoke with did more discouraging the idea than he did trying to help me get the part I needed. There seems to be more speculation about the negative effects of E85 on your existing fuel system and aluminium engine parts than there is actual R&D on the subject. On the experience side I know of at least 2 people with pre-1989 vehicles who have been running it for more than a year and the most severe problem I have heard of from them was a slight hose swelling issue on a piece that was in the tank.

As far as control goes, you can take your pick. Any unit capable of running very large injectors will be good enough to convert you over. I went with the MAP ECU due to the ease of installation, user frendliness, included software, internal MAP sensor, elimination of MAF and the ease of switching between E85 and 91 octane tunes. (For when you find yourself somewhere where E85 is not available.) With an aquisition cost of $400.00, it seemed like the logical choice.

waking the dead....

what AFR readings would we have to aim for when tuning with E85, using say a Zeitronix wideband?

I've read that some say stoich should be at about 9 or 9.5 and rich would be at about 6.5 or something. Is this true?

Thanks.

I swear I've answered that question in another thread before. Let me try and find it.
