Ok so I went and did the timing to what I believe is 17 degrees. I'm kinda stuck though because when I disconnected the tps and followed the instructions on how to adjust the timing, I got two different timing readings. I first checked the timing b4 doing anything to the car just to see what it was at. It was reading like at 5 degrees. So then I went along with the instructions and when I disconnected the tps, the timing was reading a lil higher than 20.... I then adjusted the timing to 17 and reconnected the tps. Now it was reading at like 0... Why is this happening? Whick reading should I go by?

I'm pretty sure you need to do more than just disconnect the TPS to get it into timing mode. I don't think the ECU can pull that much timing for idle control though... Was it warmed up and idling smooth at 850 rpm?

Edit: Are you a bad enough dude to time your car by ear?

Here, I have this hosted from another post. You need to do it this way in order to time it correctly.

After you do the timing, shut the car off and then reconnect TPS.

Thanks for the directions Danja, exactly what we needed in this thread.

As for timing by ear; I seem to be uncommonly good at it.
