ECU Question
Would it be possible to run a Sentra SE ECU (SR20DE) that was flashed for VVL , turbo on DET block etc., in a RWD chassis?

The reason I ask is because I have a 97 240sx that I'm building and I'd like to have it OBDII capable.

I have little to no wiring background and very little ECU tuning experience so sorry in advance if this is a dumb question.

Any input would help. Thanks.

Nothing huh? I guess I'll have to give JWT a call and see what they say. I'll keep you guys posted just in case anyone else was wondering the same thing.

I don't know where you're going to find a FWD, OBDII, SR20DE ECU flashed for VVL, turbo and 8.5:1 compression but if you find one then it would work on a RWD chassis. I don't see why not.

It might be a bit involved though. If you're new to wiring and ECUs it will be a learning experience for sure.

What I meant was to get an FWD, OBDII SR20DE ECU then have it flashed by JWT to support VVL, turbo etc.

I was mostly wondering if all the hardware was interchangeable, since it seems that they are fairly similar engines. Would I have to create a completely different harness or would the SR20DET one work with slight modifications?

Would it be more simple to try to use a Nissan X-Trail SR20VET ECU (flashed appropriately for supporting mods) and wiring harness?

Sorry if these are ridiculous ideas.

I'll be diving into research and phone calls to shops over this until I figure out a way ahead. Let me know if you guys see any fatal flaws to my ideas. Thanks

Having JWT set you up with a VET tune is entirely possible, although note that their VET tunes might not be perfected like their other ones. http://www.sr20-forum.com/tuning/599-engine-management-system-comparison.html

If you have a VVL head on a RWD DET block (I assume?) then you shouldn't have much trouble using the SR20DET harness with that and the ECU. You will have to do some pin swapping more than likely, and you'll have to add your own VVL solenoid wires to the harness.

I don't think people are flashing SR20VET ECU's, are they?

What you're trying to do is not terribly difficult. For the most parts, all the sensors and actuators you're dealing with should be supported, or easily swapped with supported units. It just takes a good deal of research.
The only thing I can imagine being sort of an issue is the vehicle speed sensor on the RWD drive train using a different protocol, but that's unlikely?

Exactly right. VVL head on RWD block.

I haven't heard of very many people flashing SR20VET ECU's. Most likely because they are very hard to come by.

I appreciate all the feedback. I'll do some more research and let you know how I end up cracking this nut.

What are you doing with the FWD distributor/CAS? And are you relocating the VVL solenoids?

I'm debating between using the 20v CAS or the Mazworx Hall Sensor.

I do have solenoid relocation blocks that Lance had made however, I was under the impression that the 20v head wouldn't necessarily need the solenoids relocated to fit in the RWD bay.

I might just go ahead and mount them since I have them so I don't have to worry about being wrong in my assumption.

FYI, the Mazworx Hall Sensor will not work with a JWT ECU.

And if you use the 20V CAS, that means you're going to use COP, and that means the JWT tune you get needs to take that into account.

By saying you havent heard of "many" people flashing sr20vet ecu's, does than mean you have heard of some?

Ive tried connecting to sr20vet and p12 sr20ve 20v ecu's, can get some basic information from a Nissan consult, but very minimal, just fault codes
