ECU tunning learn
Hello!! I am new with SR motors (I have an RB now and Vtec before) I am very excited with the ECU tunning capabilities of this motor and i am searching for some basic instructions to programmed chips on my own!! I have install a daughterboard on my SR20de ecu and i have the consult cable too!! I want any tutorials about what exactly are all those numbers at ROMeditor for example and what prices can i change and why?? Thank you all!!

Are you able to just read or write new values in? If you can't write you will need to get a Calum ECU or a NisTune first.

When your tuning with say a Calum ECU, you don't need to worry about hex stuff, only what's inside the BIN files via TunerPro. Read the stickies in Calum's section on the other site: CalumSult - SR20 Forum

To tune the Basic board, you will need a chip burner to burn new tunes though.

Read up about Tuner Pro here: How to setup and use TunerProRT - SR20 Forum

Yes i know that!! But if i don't know the basics about what i can write and why (in the chip's map) why to spend the money to take the burner??

That is the nature of tuning, figuring out what to modify so the car runs better, it's all trial and error. There are some stickies in this section that should help you get kinda started.

You need a chip burner to be able to burn new tunes onto a chip to install into the ECU if you have a Calum ECU.

Tuner Pro works great with Calum's RT ECU so I am guessing you mean the other one, non-RT ECU? No chip burner required.

I even have an RT Calum for my U13's KA and there are plenty of base files that address the major tuning issues (e.g. excessive pull back on timing with heat and higher revs, the KA is not so different there). The DB is about the same as a B15, I think that is what he used.

ROM based solutions and chip burners are not for trial and error IMHO these days. If you're going to spend 2/3rd's of the $$$ you will spend 5x the time (not you, I mean someone starting from scratch).

I used a COBB AP with my G for the same reason. I was really lucky because of the lack of any software when I bought my AP for my '04 Coupe I was able to get a copy of Nissan-Infiniti AccessTUNER Pro from COBB w/o spending over a grand on it (on top of the $700 for the AP!). Same concept with multiple profiles through multiple files, and a few minutes to swap maps. Emissions test time, just reloaded the OEM bin file and then replace it when done, no problems, and that only requires the AP, not a laptop or the software.

I find both my B13's JWT ECU's frustrating by comparison because I can't just jack in a laptop and see what's going on or easily make tweaks. After my first B13 choked on emissions for the 4th test, I finally think there's a rich spot in the map at the exact wrong place and am going to try with a spare stock B13 ECU. If the ECU had Calum's or COBB's capabilities, I'd just load a stock map

It's a capability I am increasingly not happy doing w/o in any Nissan, the tuning is so open if you have the right stuff.

I didn't say it would be cheap or friendly now did I?

He has a basic, so you would need a chip burner to get a new tune on it, unless you can get someone else to burn it for you.

And I know a person that tunes with a basic board. You basically take your base tune and open it with Tuner Pro, then update values, burn drive for a week data logging. Then update those values with Tuner Pro, burn Drive for another week.

This is why I bought a Real Time, it takes the Burning and spending time installing out of the question
