SR20DE with 64b ECU
I decided to get a NIStune board so I can finally put all things together. The idea is well known - to get the most out of the engine and the installed modifications (as per my signature).

Good thing is it won't be too much of a hassle to get it from Australia to Bulgaria. The price is also great due to the current ROE.
But maybe there is a bad side and this is why I want to ask you for help.

While taking pictures of my ECU, I discovered that it might be using 64b *.bin. Later on that was proven when I downloaded it using the NIStune trial.

So my question is - has anyone ever worked with 64b ECU?
I know most ECUs use 32b *.bin files. Are there any advantages or disadvantages of the 64b ECU?

Many people told me to get another ECU, 32b one. Not that I can't do it, but what if I don't?

Thanks,
Martin

are you talking about 32kb and 64kb bin files?

If so, 32kb bin files are for OBD1 ECUs ('91-'93.5) which are B13 and OBD1 P10
64kb bin files are for OBD2 ECus ('94-'97) I think which are B14 and OBD2 P10

you can't a 32kb bin file on a OBD2 ECU or vice versa

Now my question is, what ECU do you have JWT, Calum? someone else?
and Is you ECU OBD1 or OBD2?

If you have a Calum ECU, there are alot of bin files on both forums for you to use as a base, and tune from there, regardless if its a 32kb or 64kb bin file, it just depends on if your ECU is OBD1 or 2, that will determine if you can use 32kb or 64kb bin files

Yes, I ment 32kb and 64kb bin files, my bad..

I knew I can't use 32kb bin on my ECU, but it is good to know that I am not the only person with 64kb. I have no idea why I end up with the impression that 64kb ECU (OBD2) is quite rare Maybe because it is rare here in Bulgaria.. Or maybe because I never paid enough attention reading the forums.

As for my ECU - it should be OBD2 as I already downloaded its bin and it is 64kb one. It is my stock ECU and I am planning to use NIStune daughter board. I should shortly get it shipped from Pete from PLMS.

So my question should be more like: what are the advantages/disadvantages of OBD1 vs. OBD2? Or I will be just fine using what I have.

Thanks

you will be fine with what you have

also if you bought a nistune realtime board they come with base maps to suit your application. Then you just tune from there, assuming you bought the software as well.

Thanks Anyway, I decided to give my ECU a shot.

The problem is that Pete from PLMS together with Matt from NISTune are trying to make their Board Type 3 work with my Primera ECU but it is not happening so far..

I received bad news from Matt and Pete regarding using NISTune with my ECU. They can not make a type 3 board working with my 64kb bin installed in similar to mine ECU. I say similar as they don't have ECU's like mine in Australia. There is an option to make it work but I will have to have my car not running for the time the ECU being shipped to AU. Which is not an option since this is my DD.

Now I will have to find another ECU, working on my car. Worst part is I really have no idea what other ECU will work on my P10.. I can get an early highport P10 ECU but since it come out of a 10:1 highport with no O2, I doubt it will do the work for me.
Does anyone know if such ECU will work for me since I have O2? Both use different MAF - one is with 3 wires, other with 4.

hi martin... interesting info.. i am surprised they cant make board for 64kb bin ecu.
Did they ask you to send your ecu to them to australia? I guess they can make board for it but they just need it physically..

i think you can use the 32kb bin ecu with no prob. I have no idea about the diff MAFs but you can download bin from your 64kb ecu and compare MAF translation table to 32kb bins from nistune rompack. there are address files for both 32 and 64kb ecus
I had working both 32kb and 64kb p10 ecu in my p11 with same setup btw..

I would like to know too if there is significant different when tuning 32 and 64kb ecu. The biggest diff is the VE table, but have no idea what are real const/props for us.

Actually i asked nistune last week about nistune for my p11. i wanted p10 ecu since i have moded harrness for p10 ecu, but they offered me type 4 board for the p11 ecu. they just need me to send them the ecu to austria

If so, 32kb bin files are for OBD1 ECUs ('91-'93.5) which are B13 and OBD1 P10
64kb bin files are for OBD2 ECus ('94-'97) I think which are B14 and OBD2 P10

but euro ecus are diff. euro p10 ecus are all odb1 with same pinout but some use 64kb bin with VE table
