I can definately vouch for the fact that our MAFs are getting tired.

On the NX2000 that I'm rebuilding I picked up two stock de MAFs from the forums. On both MAFs I was getting ~.82V with both key on engine off. With engine idling there was only a slight change in voltage up to .85V. Bench testing them I could get them to 1.2V by blowing on them so I figured the MAFs were fine and that I had a wiring or vacuum leak.

I ended up my car apart looking for wiring problems and vac leaks, even went so far as to pick up a second intake manifold. Nothing was working. Even tried the CRC MAF spray. Later I remembered that I had an Avenir MAF for my future turbo setup and threw it on the car. Voltages were .52 KOEO and 1.3 at idle. Bench testing it like I did the other two I was getting voltages of 2V+ by blowing on it versus only 1.2V.

Turns out I bought two MAFs that were duds that failed in the same way, at least one will cover the core charge when I pick up a new MAF from the store, I'm done with buying used MAFs.

After reading this thread I really think I might be having a problem with my MAFs. I'm a little clueless on this.. but where's the best place to get a new MAFs or are they fixable if not up to there specs? What other MAFs will fit a b13 Se-r?

I will have to really check mine out..

The closest thing you can get to a new MAF now days is a remanufactured unit from most any auto parts store.

Autozone has them listed for $150ish with a $40 core charge. So $110 which is better than I was expecting.

I'm planning on disecting my second MAF to see if is fixable, I don't have high hopes though.

You can get them from Nissan for about $400

I found some non-oem E60's on eBay. They look tempting at $100, brand new too...

A-1 Cardone Brand?
Are these actual Nissan MAF? Are these remanufactured ones as good as a new one?

Not trying to pay ~$475 for a new OEM one.. and yes the non-oem ones are tempting but who's to say if they will work properly.

The remanufactured ones are not as good... They normally fail within the first year from my experiences. The ones at AutoZone are especially unreliable and die within a few months. Your best bet is to purchase a used one.

Agreed. The new ones are very expensive. They will last for 15+ years but are way overpriced.. With a Calum ECU, you will have multiple options for other OEM used MAFs (N60, E60/61, & Z32).

Wonder if the low mileage JDM MAFs are available? Wonder if they will work??

Almost makes more sense to forget it all and go standalone. LOL

[DC Scotty, You had given me a write-up on my post when I was having problems a few months back. I had surgery and hadn't gotten around to testing it.. ]

geez.. I will test the voltage on my current one and see where it's at.. hopefully it's ok, but i suspect that it's not up to par..

http://www.sr20-forum.com/tuning/18852-n60-maf-issue-my-fix.html

with some basic tunning i was able to make a possibly old maf work and run right. now this might not work for every one but it is some thing to look at at least. i know alot of the specs for Nissan mafs show they should be 1.5v (or around there) at idle but alot of these mafs are also stock for 6 cylinder or larger displacement motors that should flow more air at idle any way. so i am not to sure how we can figure out say what the Brand new Maf voltage should be any way. i also think MAF placement and the intake tube will have a huge difference on the idle voltage. alot of us use intakes that are pipes and the stocks are rubber hoses that have alot of groves in them that will affect air flow. i just think with some time and the right tunning tools the maf as long as it is wired correct can be used reg or it getting a little tired.

Thats the exact procedure that I use as a temporary tuning solution.. This procedure only allows/buys you some shopping time to source another MAF. This not a permanent fix as the MAF will loose even more voltage over time.. It is safe to do this but when your idle gets funky again, you can mod your ECU MAF settings again..
