I was bored the other day...
... So I made a wacky shifter extension and a pool ball knob, with the knob it cost less than $10. I just bent some steel rod from Home Depot in a vise with a sledge hammer and welded a stack of nuts onto the rod. Then I just screwed the extension on and locked it in place with another nut (that part is under the boot.

I was out of black spray paint I put a sleeve of heat shrink wrap stuff over it for the time being.

It's awkwardly tall looking but the shifter is closer to the wheel so the idea is that time will be saved reaching for the shifter and then going back to the wheel.

Just thought I would share if anyone was thinking about this kind of thing. It was cheap and wasted a good 30 mins

a Hurst speed shifter with a pool-ball grip! LOL!

thats seriously whacky! but hey what evers comfortable for ya..

if you want to shorter them throws up a bit an really save time on shifter get a b&m short shifter to go with that.. OR do the old move the ball up on the shifter trick.

but seriously when im racing i keep my hand on the shifter until second gear usually unless i get to much tq steer but then after second theres pleanty of time to get that hand back on the shifter so i dont really see a point there.. WELL thats just drag racing, road course or auto-x i could see that actually helping tho in combo with what i mentioned ^^

Yeah you got it exactly

I moved that stock nylon ball up a while back and I pulled out the powersteering. With the turbo, stiff coilovers, wider tires, and lots of torque steer, the less time I my hand is off the wheel the better. I still might just chuck it in the dumpster because I keep wanting to reach where the old shifter was lol.

Except maybe the cue ball, the stock shift knob just seems like it was made for a little Japan man hand. I know the cue ball is pretty cliche and lame but on the other hand it is like a perfect fit in my hand.
