Repair surface rust in your trunk!
This is pretty easy. I had surface rust in my spare well from the hole in the side. (See thread here) This puddled and sat for who knows how long and I finally am able to do something about it because before I was chasing my tail about it since the hole was still there.

Tools:
- Wire brush
- Spray paint can of Rust-oleum Rust Remover spray (or other equivalent)
- Mildy soapy water solution
- Towels
- Hand gloves
- Eye protection

Here is what I started with.

Here is halfway through. Note the difference.

Fully brushed and ready to paint.

First coat of spray paint.

Second coat a few minutes later. (As instructed by the can)

Let it sit for 24 hours to become fully dry and I will do as the can says and apply one final coat after those 24 hours elapse.

I hope this works! Now I gotta remove the spare and do this to the steel wheel.

I hope this helps someone for some quick, easy, do it yourself rust repair.

I know this is an old post, I have used a wire wheel on a drill, it will insure you get a clean smooth rust free area...

also make sure you put something between the tire and floor or it will rust again...

Thanks NissanGuy!

A wire wheel and a drill will indefinitely work well, and probably at least ten times faster!!!

Right now, I have had my trunk empty. No spare, just the carpeting and the cardboard cover for the spare hole.

Great advice, thank you, sir!
