ive heard of sandwiching the prothane between 2 2x4 pieces of wood lowering your car on the wood causing it to press in .

I can see that working, but I would make sure you get it in right at first, if the insert starts pressing in on the corner mount then it might get cut hehe

I am going to be ordering dome prothanes very soon and i have a few questions;

1. Would doing the front and rear mounts first be easier now that you look back on this, I ask this beacuse if you use the stock mounts' movements to your advantage couldn't you bolt the mounts to the engine and then boplt up the x-memebr so its easier to align the rear one?

2. I know you have a b14 but on a b13 do you have to mod the prothane the same as you did?

3. would using a sawzall to cut the rubber out of the center of the stockers help in bending int he ring around them?

4. Do the prothanes make for easier shifting because of less engine/transmisison movement and do they help with how much of beating the tranny can take beause of less movement?

Thank you in advance if you get around to this
Wes.

1. It might work, but if you install the side mounts first the engine would not drop as much. But feel free to try it and let us know how it goes

2. The passenger side Prothane you mean? Most likely yes.

3. YES! If you are careful and get the whole mount into vice grips, you can probably even cut the metal around the mount in 2-3 areas and it should come out without a problem. Be careful not to cut the actual mount!

4. a. What do you mean by hard shifting? You mean the jerking of the car when you shift? If that's the case it will only get worse because any mishift will be taken straight to the frame not onto the stock mounts. Learning to drive stick smoothly well help you though.

b. By beating you mean gunning the car? Improperly shifting will add beating to the transmission, grinding gears will give a beating to your gears in the transmission. Once again learning to properly drive and shift a manual will not only make a smooth right but will extend the life of your transmission and clutch.

As far as question 4 goes;

A. What i mean here is the movement of the tranny will be less, so in essence will there be less binding, If you will, Of the shifting rods making for an easier shift.?

B. What i mean here is, The lack of Transmission movement and banging around with the prithanes doe sit improve the life of the transmission as far as pop out wold go? (I was told by Boriquaracer on the other forum that on a b13 the sheer movement of the tranny rocking back and forth harshly can cause 5th gear pop out....)

-Also I can drive 5 speed perfectly fine i just wanted to know what else the prothanes effect.
Thank you,
Wes.

Ahh gotcha, see I can't imagine what a harder shift would be. Push clutch and it should go easily from first to second, then to third, etc. If it doesn't go into gears easily then your clutch might not be disengaging all the way thus not allowing for an easier shift.

My shifter used to move every time you press on the gas say in 5th gear, yet I still never had a problem with hard shifting hehe. Now with all Prothanes the shifter shouldn't move at all.

Maybe you can describe the problem with more detail?

Not sure about that, luckily they fixed up the trannies to be more resistant to 5th gear pop outs for B14's.
