good to know, thats probably where im gonna get it cuz the autozone definetly doesnt not carry that weight mobil1 here. Thanks man. Appreciate it.

I think thats what im gonna go with after the breakin on my build. Its funny cuz the last semi build i did it ran fine for 1k miles of breakin on regular 10w30 then when i switched to synthetic mobil1 5w30 the night before going to the track i got a collapsed lifter after about 100 miles worth of driving, Go figure and then boom there went the semi build. haha. So only difference was i was not using a mobil1 filter at that time. Now i use both and have had no problems at all. Im definetly gonna go with the thicker oil especially with the higher temps coming up. Gonna want the extra protection and cusion with a 500whp build.

yeah i would not be either, cruising at that oil pressure would scare me, My buddies 4ag that i rebuilt has 40psi at idle and 70+ when cruising on a stock oil pump. He used quaker state 10w40 conventional oil in that one.

It seems every time ive used the 5w30 and 10w30 ive had problems, when i went to the 10w40 i havent but i would like to go even thicker than that. I know 15w50 is popular in the dsm crowd as well. I wouldnt see why not for the extra protection.

Decent oil pressure is nice, but it doesn't mean shіt if the oil is too thick to fit between the rod/main bearing and the journal. If you're confident with your tolerances, there's no reason to go with some of these heavy oils I'm seeing recommended like it's accepted practice.

I guess I'm not in a position to recommend oil though. =/

2015 Edit: I have since learned that there really is no such thing as oil that is too thick to fit between the bearings. Thin oils are mainly used by OEMs for fuel economy, not because bearing tolerances are tight. Thicker oils do provide better protection.

why not though, there is definetly a trend here between what is happening, haha.

People that have been using 15w50 or even me using 10w40 havent had a problem while people that have been using 5w30, 10w30 oil have been. Im thinking its just too thin, I can see if your tolerances were too tight that using a thicker oil could cause problems but i cant see if your tolerances were in mid specs that it would cause a problem. Oil is still pretty thin in its own nature with pressure behind it it will pretty much go anywhere. Hell if it can run out of your oil seals like no tommorrow once they just dont quite put enough pressure on the sealing surface i dont see why they cant go through the passages and bearings easily

I usually use the MobileOne 15w50 for track days.

Friday I ran 10w30 MobileOne, and I actually accidentally put in more than normal, but then thought it might help with the Gs.

I am in a NA DE and my motor is fine so far, water temps never got higher than 200deg.F at the track. But I'm not home yet. (we're still in Hilton Head)

I guess I should cross my fingers as I cross I-95?

yeah i can see for drag cars or track cars using the thicker oil could be bennificial and using the thinner oil could be better for everyday use, Maybe go with at least the 10w40 for regular use and 15w50 for track use. I think ive decided thats what im going with on my build. Or at the very least the 10w40 that ive been using. But im seriously considering just using the thicker of the two.

Careful. I-95 is the evil satan to the SR20 realm. Better find a priest to bless the car!

On a serious note, the 15w50 is a great idea for track day, which makes me feel even more confident that I should run it before long trips. 10w40 will be the minimum that I would run now, in the car as a daily. Maybe that will keep the oil from evaporating in the future.

If you notice most of the people telling to use 5w something is the same guy who sold you your motor.
