\track day sounds good.
all drivers should wear pants mandatory, helmets, seatbelt check, battery tie down check, drop as much weight as possible an check condition of clutch an brakes prior to any sort of track day.

Don't wait until the last minute to do significant changes/mods to your car. If you wait until the last minute, chances are greater you'll not tighten something or take untested goods to the track. It could really mess up your day, as well as someone else's by doing this. I once saw a 911 go out and dump it's entire coolant system, and take out 3 cars in the process, because the dude was in a rush and forgot to tighten a hose clamp. Unless it's a matter of not being able to go, I wouldn't make any big changes without having enough time to test it out PRIOR to trackday.

For the newbies, start out slow. Learn the track and your surroundings (which includes the other people you're on track with) BEFORE you pick up the pace. Don't feel pressured to outperform anyone. If they're faster, they're faster....just let them by...not a big deal. Keep your head screwed on straight at all times (which includes cool downs and pit lane driving) and have fun with your car.

I'm tired...enough old guy lecture...

I don't think there's a schedule yet, but plan on 8am or so. It will always start with a driver's meeting and such, though.

I may be a bit late, but I just noticed that no one ansered your question.

FYI, the Snell rating sees an update every 5 years, so next time a new rating will come out will be around 2010 (next year). Don't hold your breath, though, since SA2005 helmets never came out until 2006.

So, if you get an SA2005 helmet, it should normally last up to 2015, so about 6 years. Note that some clubs accept helmets for longer, but the +10 rule of thumb mentioned earlier is probably the best if you want to run events run by multiple clubs.

Anyway, at that point, I'm pretty sure you'll be fed up with your helmet and will be glad to get a new one.

I never done any track time and I'm actually looking to do this. Since I'm a beginner I will just follow the pack and I have no intentions of "beating" anyone. I assume we (as forum members) shouldn't take this into a competition. The way I see it we go out there and have fun.

That's basically how all track days (PDX HPDE) are run. And you will find plenty of competitiveness in improving your own driving.

It really is quite fun.
