Its been done, and it's not all that great. usually people charge way to much to use their equipmen.

The problem is also insurance and liability. what if someone get's hurt or the car gets damaged while in the shop on a diy project?

too many variables.

I've seent his done at track side garages, usually just between friends though. I can say from experience that if you are at a stocked shop, you treat it like crap! Most folks borrow tools and keep them, break them or leave them in places they don't belong. This causes all kinds of issues for the next guy.

Imagine you got the shop at the end of the day and people had "lost" all the tools you needed to get your work done, or broken the lift or whatever. Do you still have to pay? Can you get your work done? Etc.

I like the idea, but I think in execution it's poor because people just don't care about stuff that isn't theirs.

It SOUNDS like a good idea, but people get hurt working on cars, insurance would be a PITA I bet with something like this, things can get damaged as said, tools can be stolen, it seems more of a headache than it's worth in my opinion.

There already is a place similar to this in Alpharetta called E3 Storage.

Several friends store their race cars up there.

There was one in Rock Hill sc for a while called U-fix-it. It lasted for a little bit. He had lifts you could rent all of his tools, he even sold supplies and parts. But it didnt last very long seemed like a decent idea.
