Additional subsection in the For Sale/Classifieds section: Services
Please chime in with your thoughts.

After closing a thread this morning, and someone bringing to light that there are other threads that remained open with similar foundations, maybe it's a good idea to create a "Services/Supplies" subsection in the FS area...

Does anyone else think it's a good idea? This would be a section that still requires that folks adhere to the Classifieds rules, while allowing them to offer unique services/supplies/etc.

Decals, banners, placards, or services (detailing, unique production of goods, etc.) would be placed in this section.

I 100% agree with it. I saw that the thread was closed and felt it was a little unfair. It's helping out the community by having us get stuff cheaper

Only snag I can see is that the forum vendors who've presumably paid* for the privilege of their own section and the ability to peddle their products and services here might get upset.

*I know the paid status of the vendors is something Crim has said needs work, and we don't have many active vendors, and some people want to be vendors but are waiting in the wings, and we have some members who might be forced to become a vendor if we weren't so lax about things (not saying that's a bad thing).

This would move us sort of away from the traditional "paid vendor" style of forum that a lot of other forums follow. Again, not saying it's a bad thing. That's the only potential "issue" I can see.

I like the idea, as long as random companies don't join to try to spam their services that we don't need, ie- car insurance, car warranties, schools (not that that follows the forum rules but just saying)

Maybe if we could make it as a members only viewed section, that would discourage that

Why wouldnt it go under the vendor section? Isnt that the point of it?

Well the difference is this in my eyes: Registered Business vs. Individual.

For instance, 99sel. He makes decals for folks on here. Should we force him into a vendor status, just because he likes making decals for us?

Let's say I have a t-shirt design or two, and I decide to make some batches, charging $2 over the cost of just a shirt. I don't run a business, I'm just doing it because someone may want one. Should I become a vendor because of that? It's not a group buy because I'm not asking folks to pay up front prior to making some shirts.

Idk, something limited and specific has me thinking "services"; it was just a thought.

Even though money isn't required up front and you may be able to buy one at a time, it's not a stretch to think that 99sel's decals and similar products/services could land in the Group Buy section as well?
Just thinking out loud...

The eggman license plate frames aren't money up front, and they seem to be a "group buy" too... sort of...

The staff already had decided that eggman's license plate frame stuff wasn't a group buy. Just seemed like the most logical place to put it, since there really wasn't another place for it.

Not wanting to start anything or get off-topc,but...Actually I did collect money up front, but only enough to cover 1/3 of the total cost. That was the deal...if enough people prepaid,I would pay for the rest and sit on them until they all sold.

My opinion is this.I like the ide of a subsection for "services" provided by members.
Problem is its a fine line between a "vendor" and "service provider"

For example...tearoffguy(who is a good friend of mine, but I will try not to be biased).
One one hand,he has a tinting business, and offers his services here, even outside FL when needed, but does that make him a vendor??
In reality,Larry is just wanting to hook up fellow sr20 guys with good tint jobs.

He would probably not want to pay for a vendors account, but he will give some great discounts for members...not to mention his quality of work is top notch on both windows and Headlight and taillight film.
So I think he walks a fine line but ultimately he is a service provider...as is 99se-l....although he is a"vendor" of MDM parts.....see what I mean.Fine line.:o

Me on the other hand,I am not in the business of marketing or tag-frames.I just wanted some tag frames and other members started filling my paypal account up to help foot the bill to get them started

Services eh? Didn't Craigslist have to get rid of a similar classified section?
