Keo, can you tell me what brakes "suspend" and why they have anything to do with suspension at all? Are there certain suspensions that don't allow certain brake options?

I'm just imagining how much easier it would be to search and find brake threads when you don't have to wade through the multitude of suspension stuff. I don't care if there's as little as 10 brake threads on the entire forum. Splitting them up would make everyone's lives easier, and at such a minor "cost".

maybe we can just make a faq's about brakes. i don't see it having a sub section being any helpful to anyone.

also, how many brake options is there that people really use? if we have a faq's for brake like Shawn B's for the suspension, most if not all the question will be answered there.

We need a new section for cookie cutter setups? I am with Keo. I would like to see well organized FAQ's way before we need a new section for people to post in the wrong section. And where are the brakes located?

There was a brake specific thread just recently that had nothing to do with how many possibilities we have for these cars.

Seriously, all you guys can think about are upgrade options for our cars? That's not what these sections are about. If someone has trouble with their parking brake cables, you're not going to cover that in a FAQ. If someone wants to know where to buy hardlines, or hardline bending tools, or how to double flare hard lines, they need a place to ask. What about brake noises? What about pedal reinforcement? What about proportioning valves?

Who is going to make a FAQ like that?

By you guy's logic, we can shut down the suspension section because Shawn's already got the FAQ up with all the upgrade possibilities. Right?

LOL no.

First how many threads are about brakes or suspension? Everything you listed could be put in a FAQ's or How-To's. Brakes are a very simple system.

Like I told some on last night. I don't feel like contributing anything because there is so much bad and/or unorganized infromation that people take as gospel. I would rather see that fixed before trying to "expand". In other words... Put time where it is more valuable.

Could it be we don't have many threads about brakes because there's nowhere to put them?

The suspension FAQ didn't come out of thin air. It is based off decades of suspension knowledge hashed out in suspension discussions and countless links in the FAQ point to talk in suspension sections for more detail. A brake FAQ without a back-up discussion and knowledge engine would be a complete nightmare and likely failure.

Nitrous is a simpler system than the brakes, and we have a section for it. It may not get a lot of traffic, but the information there is very valuable and extremely specific to the subject at hand. Similar to brakes. They don't even begin to belong in the suspension section.

What exactly do we lose by adding one?

IMO, we get asked more about upgrade than maintenance/problems.

If someone has trouble with their parking brake cables, you're not going to cover that in a FAQ.

true, but how many ways can you fix a parking brake issue? clean, lube and adjust if not replace it.

If someone wants to know where to buy hardlines, or hardline bending tools, or how to double flare hard lines, they need a place to ask.

I do see this more often now than before, again a sticky will tell you what size, flare and tool you need.

What about brake noises?

even if everyone is in the car listening, it's not 100% what the problem is. it's like brake dust, I see people complain about metal master yet love hawk. IMO Hawk has a shit load more dust and does not stop that much better(street version.)

What about pedal reinforcement?

how often do you see or hear about this on the b chassis forum? i know the S chassis has that issue.

What about proportioning valves?

it's an option, but is it an option that every or at least half of use would use?

Who is going to make a FAQ like that?

That is going to be a task and a half.

my opinion in red.

edit: hopefully my engrish is better today!

Well what do you want to talk about. I have lots of information. You want to talk about making Ti pistons to keep fluid from boiling? Proper brake ducting? Chemical differences of DOT 3 or 4 fluid? Advantages of multi piston brakes? Effect of pad size and/or rotor diameter? Pad compounds? Etc Etc Etc I don't see anybody posting about it here because most people don't care or can get information they need elsewhere.

I see your point, but I don't see the value really of the section. If there was more real discussion I'd be all for it. I don't think the lack of section makes for the lack of discussion.

Nate, I don't see how traffic has anything to do with if we need a section or not. On that basis, we should lump all the low traffic sections into one right?

Just put all these in one section:

SR20 National Convention
All Motor
Nitrous Oxide
Audio and Electronics
Tuning
Server News

Brakes are a distinct system, with a whole lot of minutia as you realize. They don't belong in the suspension section any more than they belong in any other section. Again, I don't see what we lose by splitting it up. What do we lose? As far as I can see, we have everything to gain.

x2

Traffic is important. if there is no traffic for a section, what make it important enough to have it's own section?
