WTF is this in my car???
The other day I removed the plastic cowling from under my B13's wipers and I found this stuff loose in there. Looks like beige rubberized cardboard.
What is it? What purpose does it serve? Any negatives if I remove it?

That is some high-performance mechanically engineered beige rubberized JDM cardboard. It creates additional downforce under the windshield wipers, which generates an underhood draft effect sucking air into the intake, and creating an extra 8-10 whp. The downforce also helps you with front end traction through the vertical pressure transmitted to your wheels, and it assists in braking by acting as an in-body air foil brake, brah.

If I had to guess, it's either sound insulation, or a rain guard, or maybe a cabin air pre-filter (although I'm not 100% where the cabin air draws from). It could be all three...
I'm thinking rain guard is most likely?

I think Chris got it right. Looking at it closer it seems like it could be just that. However, something tells me that "reductionator" is not the official term for this part.
Ben, the air is pulled in all the way over on the passenger side... far away from the mesh part on the drivers side...

I see someone has hit up his winter supply of "magic mushrooms" that he grew on the farm over the summer.

It's sound deadening like Chris said, I had some on my car as well, although it wasn't that big.

Shawn nailed it. I read about this stuff on the old mailing list years ago and ever since I've been tearing it out of every B13 I find in the junkyard. Jam 4 or 5 pieces of that shit under the cowl and you're B13 will rival any supercar on the market today. It's true.
