Ya, no biggie. Who hasn't had that happen to them?

The USA safety standards even in the 90s were more stringent. An easy comparison would be curb weights. I'm pretty sure if we compared the Tsuru GSR vs. the SE-R there would be a difference in mass. Safety structures in cars increase mass unless you start using more advanced materials aka $$$$.

Thus when it's time to build a new race car start with a TSURU - you'll already have that weight loss advantage that you are going after. Add a cage and you will still be under stock USDM weight.

I'd rather have an SE-R as a race car. A cage will help you in a roll over but as far as absorbing impact energy I'd rather have those factory safety features. A Tsuru will probably do what you see in that video and not absorb enough of that impact energy. Lets remember that Dale Earnhardt went through massive deceleration in the crash that killed him. He was inside a purpose built caged racecar.

??? WHAT ???

What do you think happens when you take a car and:

gut the doors?
remove the stock steering column and replace it with an extended solid one piece one?
remove air bags so you can have a smaller steering wheel?
remove the dash and put a metal on in or none at all?
remove the windshield and put plastic in?

Don't take this the wrong way, but seriously, if you're that concerned, get rid of your B13, it's NOT safe. Go buy something more safe or more current. You do know it's a 20 year old car right? Automotive safety has improved significantly since then. Its like me getting a 1920s car and saying I'm worried that the wheels are made out of wood.

I look at it this way, it'll make a sweet coffin to bury me in.

Sure, newer cars have to meet more stringent standards but every accident is different and there's no guaranty that any vehicle is going to keep you alive. The best way to keep yourself safe out on the road is to drive defensively. Or take a bus.
