Externally mounted (hood/cowl) oil pressure gauge
Debated posting this here or members rides, I chose here to be more chassis specific.....

5+ years ago with my build coming to a close and money becoming tight, and not knowing the difference between a mechanical or electric oil pressure gauge, I saw a big difference in price and went with the mechanical autometer. Long story short; delays, fittings, and a now 3 year old child have held me back with hooking it up. I've since removed the gauge from my dash mounted tri-pod and filled the hole with my uego. I want to mount it externally to certainly safeguard against an in-cab oily mess in case of gauge failure.

Who, if anyone, has done this on a b13 and could ya post me pictures of your mount and under hood area, also offering any issues and experience with this setup.

It looks as if I WILL have to drill the hood, doesn't look as if the hood will clear the gauge when opening if mounted on the cowl.

Thanks

stainless line and correct fittings will never ever leak. would be dumb to have a gauge on the outside on a car you drive a lot on the street too many people start looking

Morgan, I literally just learned about stainless line on friday after talking to an old muscle car buddy of mine. Regardless, this gauge will go on the hood I think. Thanks for your info though :-) I think I'll try to source a carbon fiber pod to flow with my hood and work from that. I've googled and googled and talk to aftermarket dealers, can't find a weather proof pod anywhere! Even called autometer who said he's never heard of such a thing.

I AM an innovator! :-D

Why not buy an electrical unit instead? Carbon fiber hood cost way more than that, only to ruin a $400-500 hood to save 80-100bucks and still look like poop. Doesn't make sense, unless you just want the look of an Oil gauge sticking out of a sentra which is something else.

Some guys use a scoop mounted backwards and mount the guages under the scoop to protect from the weather. That would loom retarded on a b13 but maybe something to thT effect to protect the guage? Lime a really small scoop or naca duct?

P10- I already own the mechanical gauge, never been used to this day after 5 years...wanna buy it to fund an electrical? Didn't think so :-P And thanks but I'll be the decider of what looks like poop on my car ;-) Furthermore, I got my CF in a trade + $$$ in my pocket years ago...no bother to me "ruining it" if I achieve the goal I'm striving for.

D-Unit- boat gauges aren't guaranteed water proof, only water resistant. That's what I was told by autometer when I called them....and again, I already have this gauge. This is the gauge I will be using.

Like this is what I had in mind when D-unit121 posted

Add boat gauge and call it a day

Ya might get some haters bro, but use your imagination and anything is possible. Just run with it..auto meter mechanical fuel pressure and electronic EGT gauges with ordinary external cup bezel. Never had an issue and was daily driven for few years this way
