ga16 to sr20 swap wiring question
Hey folks,

Picked up a 98 200sx se on the cheap cheap, it runs and drives fine with 220k on the ticker. Im wanting to swap in a spare UK SR20/tranny that I have laying around. I have the complete wiring harness and ecu. I have a couple of questions about the harness connections.....

this is the sr20 harness passenger side, the two connectors on the right side appear to mesh with the ga16 harness not problem, however the third from right is a three pin and the ga16 harness one is a single pin. any suggestions on this??

this is a shot of the ga16 passenger side where the 3 connectors mesh up

this is the sr20 harness drivers side will these three pins connect up to ga16 harness or do I have to splice??

keep in mind I do have the rest of the sr harness that runs from under the dash on the drivers side hoping that I wont need to use this and that I can just use the existing ga16 harness.

I feel confident about all other part/mechanical issues associated with the swap this is the only part im not confident in.

I have search thru any and all info in the forums this past weekend and could not find any write up on these connector (it is possible I missed it) any help on this would be appreciated

Use the USDM 1.6 alternator harness instead.

I am not familiar with DMV/SMOG/Vehicle Registration laws in Farmington, NM so here are the 2 EASY WAY options as I see it:

If you need to pass a SMOG check - visual, OBD2 check & EVAP test)
USDM B14 GA16 Alternator Harness
USDM B14 SR20 98 Engine & Harness
USDM B14 SR20 98 ECU

If you DO NOT need to pass a SMOG check - visual, OBD2 check & EVAP test)
USDM B14 GA16 Alternator Harness
USDM B14 SR20 95-97 Engine & Harness
USDM B14 or P10 SR20 95-97 ECU

or overhaul you GA16 harness and SR20 UK harness and make something custom.

Good Luck...

Here in Farmington there are no smog requirements so im ok on that.

looks like what you are saying is and upon futher CLOSER inspection (facepalm) that the alternator harness is completely separate on the GA harness vs the SR harness.

so do I just cut the SR harness and remove the alternator wiring then??

The alternator harness should be completely separate from the engine harness.

Which SR engine harness do you have?

It does not mater if the Alt harness is separate or not. The only thing that goes across the top of the valve cover that makes these harnesses not separate is the speed sensor harness

The wire to the far left is the speed sensor plug which travels over the valve cover and Nissan just made it join into the alt and AC harness

I am not sure what is going on here but these wires look like they are from a OBD1 B13 SER harness
