Transmission or clutch? Issue
1992 sentra SER.
So I was driving on the interstate and went to shift to 4th. When the clutch cable came loose. Pedal stayed down, and the gear grinded bad once I got it in I accelerated to get over so I could pull over. Got the car towed home. So then I adjusted the cable Started the car and tried to put it in any gear and no go. I would hear a whiningnnoise tooWhile its was off it went in all gears no problem. So I shut the car off after testing it. I put it in gear then start it and test it and the car goes,no problem while it was rolling. I shift to second no problem, as soon as I stop competed and take it out of gear and try again and it still won't go into gear, any gear at that, reverse would just start grinding, but wouldn't got in. I don't mess with for a week. I randomly try again, and I can get it in gear, no problem! So I test drive around my apartment complex I shift all through 3rd and the car was going fine. I get to the final stop, take it out of gear. I put it into first and no go! I can literally put it in all gear without pushing clutch and no go. I'm stuck. Haven't checked the gear oil level yet. Bc I will be taking off the tranny next weekend, I ordered a stage 3clutch and a new flywheel I just need some thought from you get!
Thanks in advanced!

I've been wanting one of these cars for 8 yrs now , before I ever got a license!

Please help!

sounds like the clutch, clutch cable or throw out bearing.

That is what i was thinking, which is why i purchased the clutch kit! Im just hoping that , that is the issue, because when i replaced the clutch, the transmission will be out. Do you think the transmission is good? should i get it checked out? or check it myself?

Ive never really had issues like this before, so i am completely lost, lol

Thank you for your feed back!

Replace the clutch cable while you're at it.

I don't think its a tranny problem. I would run the tranny through the gears while its on the ground and make sure the movement is smooth. I would also inspect the clutch arm and input shaft(lubricate). As mentioned I would replace the clutch cable and possibly get a tranny saver bracket from andreas miko.

Took the transmission out. Took the clutch out The clutch disc it down to bare metal. The throw out bearing , if I spin it it keeps spinning. Unlike the new one, I'm assuming that's bad too? I got stuck on the flywheel bc of missing tools, so ill be back at it in the am! So far seems as if it was the clutch and throw out bearing. I'll take pics!

The old throw out bearing will spin freely because it is working properly. The new one isn't spinning freely because it is still new and tight and packed a bit with grease. It will loosen up soon and spin freely as well once it gets some miles on it. Both seem fine.

The clutch being down to the metal is not good. You got a replacement pressure plate with that clutch, yes?

I'd have guessed that you had a cable adjustment problem, or a broken clutch arm weld (common issue) preventing the clutch from fully disengaging when you depressed the clutch. But since you're in there, you can check everything now and replace stuff. Double check that you have both clips (new ones) for the TOB, and the clutch actuator arm is moving freely and up top is not bent or broken where the cable attaches.

Well everything is back together! Running good. Only thing is the speedometer cable broke on me so I have to fix that. Other than that it started right up!
