Hate to agree with others, but OP, your motor is toast. I recently hit a PUDDLE in my 200sx on the front driver's side wheel (where the air filter is) after I was caught in some heavy rain with my CAI and inhaled enough water to stall the engine. Shut the car off for awhile til it cooled. Then it wouldn't start up and idle without dying, but after a few times it did start up, I let it idle for about 5 min and drove for 20 min when the weather cleared. The engine didn't sound right but after about 10 min it suddely went away. The best way I can describe it is, the engine sounded like that weird sound you can get sometimes when the sunroof is open with all the windows rolled up (that weird sound of like air "shaking" caused by turbulence and pressure differences).

Theory is, the minimal amount of water that was sucked up into the engine thru the CAI basically boiled away/was not enough to do permanent damage as the car was running. But it was scary until the sound went away, and now about 200 miles later it runs fine. Hydrolocking with the CAI's is a big fear of mine, and I check the weather reports making sure there's no chance of t-storms with torrential rains when I take the Nissans anywhere.

But I guess my point is, for my car, this was maybe a cup or two of water because I hit a big puddle, it ran like crap for a bit and I thought it may be the end of it but it made it thru. But if you're talking about 2 GALLONS of water, the engine is done.

very well, i guess i'll have to accept the facts. i always wanted an se-r and finally i got one but didn't last me long. i only had it for about a year or so. then again, replacing the engine for about 500 bucks doesn't sound that bad. but then i would need to get it installed and i don't have a garage or the tools to do it myself, i would have to take it in and who knows how much they charge here in vegas. towing it wouldn't be a problem because i have aaa. if anybody in vegas can help out, please let me know. i guess i'll be willing to spend 500 bucks (hopefully less) plus some change for the installation.

I suggest you start reading and making friends lol. Seriously tho, I'm am/was in a similar situation with my old SE (the reason I own a sr20det). Spun her hit a guard rail totaling from the rear but the engine still has low miles and it was what got me into this scene so I found a shell for $200, called up my buddy with a garage, the necessary tools and some general swap knowledge told him I'd give him my wrecked shell and the blown motor from the new shell to scrap as payment for helping me. Getting it done (hopefully) this weekend. Know a few guys the forum willing to help, unfortunately for me no one on this forum is near Pittsburgh lol.

then i'll wait and see if anybody would offer a helping hand in this forum. but i don't think many people here live in las vegas. i guess waiting time it is for now. i saw some jdm sr20s online but they go for around 600 bucks without including shipping... thats a bit more than what i could spend right now.
