Naah, just ground the connection in the wire. In my 91 at least the light goes off after a few minutes or less anyway with the belt unbuckled. When I use my Schroth 4-pt harness, I don't buckle the seat belt and the light goes away by itself.
I had the door inside panel off last weekend to drop some new speakers in, appalled at how crappy the spooling mech bits are in the door, Nissan really sneaked this one into the US. The spool is exceptionally well attached to the door panel, but you get the double kiss accident, like a T-bone + frontal impact in 2 steps, that POS isn't going to work.
One thing that I've thought of is re-use of the mounting point in this thread, but create an L-bracket of 1/4" steel stock, bolt the bottom through the chassis (floor), the other one as shown. Honestly as nice work as that is, the mounting point for a front driver or passenger really needs to be stronger.
I really want to ditch those belts for autocross and track use, but to date the only really safe solution is putting in a floor and pillar mount harness bar or a cage. SCCA won't allow a "Y" harness like Schroth on the track for TT's but it's legal for road use and autocross (but not too practical for the first!).
The irony is any DOT/NHSTA legal OEM seat belt IS legal for track use in Time Trials - so I have to park my harness and put on my seat belt when I am trying to turn my fastest laps of the day - how messed up is THAT?
