Stater help
Noob Question, please dont hate me!!!

I'm hearing conflicting stories about replacing the starter on my b13.

I have a 91 with a Primera swap and when chking on a replacement starter I'm being told that there are two options, mitsubishi or hitachi. I'm also being told that either will work?? One has a nose cone thingy covering the starter gear and the other doesnt??

I've also heard that they have a diff tooth count on the starter gear 8 vs. 9

Now, replacing a 9 tooth starter with an 8 tooth flys in the face of my common sense but I've never been know to have alot of that either!

So, my question to you people in the know, are they truely interchangable or not??

I know some of you might think this is rediculous question ( I DO!! ) but I have a local import parts house here that will sell me a brand new one for 125 bucks with a lifetime replacement. I do not kow if the starter on mine is the one he has as I have not seen the one he has nor pulled mine form the motor yet.

Thanks for your help guys!

I agree, I have had both and the mitsu is better than the Hitachi. Faster and sounds better -- the Hitachi is slow and not as good IMO

Thats hilarious, all the autozone type places i called, the mitsu ws around 130ish, the hitachi is around 185ish.

Hence my question when I can get a brand new unit for 125!

Thanks again guys!!
