Thread: Belt Keeps shredding/coming loose? 91 SE-R

Something is definitely wrong with one of your pulleys. Another thing that goes bad is the harmonic balancer/damper in the crank pulley. The crank pulley is actually 2 concentric pieces (a circle in a circle) and between where they come together is a thin layer of rubber or sealant. Sometimes they just fail (come apart) causing it to wobble and eventually come apart altogether.

i had this happen before. one of the bearings in one of the pulleys, cant remember which one...think it was an idler pulley, was on its way out. the pulley would vibrate/resonate and toss/shred what ever belt was on it. replaced the bearing which was a standard size and problem solved. bearing was only $2 too.
