ATTN: Faded CF Hood/Trunk owners! Cleaner Wax!
West Marine: Flagship Premium Cleaner/Wax Product Display
I would have to say that this is the single best product out there right now to clean that horrible oxidated finish from your hood/trunk/other CF parts in which a gelcoat was used to seal the CF!
My trunk as many of you are aware has some serious oxidation going on, and I've been trying to figure out what to do to make it new again. I thought about wet sanding and clearing at the tune of $250. Not a bad price, but hell I paid a lot for a trunk and didn't want to go spend more on it just to make it look like new.
I started thinking about the gel coat that is used on CF products, and how gelcoats are prominently used in the Marine realm, for protecting the hulls of watercraft. This prompted me to go to West Marine here in Havre De Grace, MD. (They have stores nationwide).
I spoke with one of the staff there and in my hand I had the 3M cleaner/wax, and the Meguiar's Flagship Premium Cleaner/Wax. He told me that without a doubt, I need to use Meguiar's rather then the 3M product. He states that it's almost effortless to use, and that you should apply it twice a year just like you would apply it to your watercraft at the start of the boating season, and at the end of the boating season.
I just went out to try a bit on the trunk in the parking lot, and WOW!!!! $29 dollars and worth EVERY penny!
I'll snap a picture later when I do half of the trunk for a before/after comparison.
