If you want just a skid plate, it makes sense to go with some decent sized aluminum. However if you want an under tray as well the smartest thing would be to make it a hybrid setup.

Thick aluminum to cover DP and oil pan, fiberglass to serve as the under tray to provide added cooling and reduce turbulence underneath the car and promote downforce.

Good point! there is also mpg to be gained for the daily driver and reduced lift and drag at higher speeds for the track guys.

One more thing to note it will increase air flow through the radiator and it will decrease air flow over the oil pan. The oil temps will go up about 10* in average driving on a 75* day. It shouldn't matter unless someone is really pushing the limits and it's nothing an oil cooler won't fix

I also like dan's idea. If that's possible for less than the cost of one arm and one leg.

Maybe a rear diffuser for the stock rear bumper if this goes through?
