Yeah a solid piece from the crossmember to the block is the best idea. It eliminates any flex at all period.
Here is one that i made just out of spare metal i got from a metal shop. Used a pipe that fit the Prothane front dogbone lower mount bushing perfect and did my own crappy welding on it. It held together for 2 years before finally cracking, just rewelded it and it was good. Then the tubing where the bushing was split where i welded it to the short piece of pipe going to the block.
If you were to make it out of a nice solid aluminum or steel it would be alot better.
