The coolant tanks are 1/8" aluminum, this slim fit can I made for a mock up is 1/4" aluminum. You can not get the same weld finish with the two different thickness and doing a half lap joint. The welds have to be bigger. Yes, actually I did them. The coolant tanks were done by my old welder that is getting too old to do it anymore. He has tought me the tricks to it and it should only benefit you guys. Not only do parts get made same day but they are cheaper too.
All welds are still done with 5356 rod and we use straight argon. Difference is he uses a mixer that mixes helium so it get hotter and a little cleaner weld as well.
