I got mine working just now. Requires slight fiddling but it's doable easily.
I'm using an eonon 1312 but it's the same as many other units such as pumpkin. I was able to do this without software overhaul or custom rom. I'm using the factory rom and firmware.
In the device go to settings then factory settings
Enter these codes to gain the required access to do the mod
Adbon
*#hct#root#
Hctbtup
You may need to reboot the device after this.
Now install xposed framework and xposed mtc apks. (Google it, i download3d directly on the head inig using wifi from the psrking lot.) Turn on the bluetooth xposed module and configure it. This will allow you to successfully remove the naming limitation.
There will be a few reboots somewhere in there but once it's setup it all stays configured. Reboots will have prompts alerting you. Now pair the device and you are good to go.
Another trick to get around this would be to have the bt module name start with obd as that's what it's looking for... but this would be a manufacturing revision.
