Well, I am one of the people helping him. I don't own a Nismotronic ECU and don't work with NEMU and I will say that it's not very intuitive. I use Tunerpro & Datascan to tune my car. Also, I never worked with a VE before so the 5* stock timing stuff had me confused. I wasn't sure what the tune was set up for as base timing.

Anyways, I think we have enough info to figure it out now. I'm pretty sure I saw the car go to 15* when we got it into timing mode on the live monitor/data screen last night but was still confused about the whole 5* timing thing w/the VE. I guess most aftermarket VE tunes are all based off 15* and not the stock 5* for the VE.

gomba, i think that stock 5 is just for the factory ecu, the key to everything working together is that they all match up so to speak so the ecu an dist work together an not fight each other.

dave an john have said it best though..

Usually the BASE IDLE IGNITION value is set to the same value from the TPS CLOSED TIMING TABLE at idle RPM with engine fully warmed up. I'll try to verify what that value is from a stock VE bin (5J000).

Agreed and I was ready to set it on 15* (and we did), but put it back to 5* because I couldn't confirm that's what the tune was expecting and it was way advanced from the perspective of the dizzy position, but now I feel confident about what to check for in the tune/software to make sure it matches.

hey Gomba, i talked to John on the phone for about 15 minutes.. he is pretty sure that the FINAL IGNITION VALUE should work out to to about 15* with this tune, based on other factors, I am going to verify in a half hour or so..

this means we can probably advance physical timing about 10*.. whoo hoo..

i knew it felt slower than my S3 cammed DE..

Glad you got everything sorted out..

Hopefully, things like this can help others down the road.

It took me a few times going through all of the menus to find how to see what the final ignition value was.

I had the same problem with JWT. They gave me a program that had the 25* base idle ignition timing and they forgot to mark it on the ECU or tell me about it. 5 weeks later, a shit ton of wasted fuel, and at least six dynos later, the problem was discovered after I sent them the ECU program number and waited to confirm the program. Quite annoying.

hehe is that the C1/C2 tune or whatever? Or is that for GTI-R. I forgot which one used 25* as base from JWT.
