Thread: New to the sr20 game

Hey, my name is Kyle and I own a 99 Nissan Sentra SE-L. It's only got 120k on it and sadly it's autotragic. It looks like it has been well taken care of. It has new plugs and wires, many new sensors, and had a fresh oil change when I bought it. Although, since I have bought the car I still have had to replace the radiator, it's running a bit rough at idle, there is a p0138 trouble code(I have replaced the O2 sensor), and for some reason my mileage is not too great. I really like the car though and if I can get it running great it will make a great DD.

I've always been a big z31 fan and the vg30 is what I am used to. I still own a 1986 Nissan 300zx turbo. I am looking forward to learning more about this engine. Although, I am not looking to do any mods. Just maintain it and drive it around.

First question: you have the rear of a 99 SE-L but looks like someone changed the front headlights/grille. Was it in a front end collision? That is in fact the 99 SE-L front bumper but the headlights and grille are from the 98 SE.

Second - I don't know where you live but I see snow on the ground in the photos. Since you just want to keep it stock and maintain it, word of warning, during the winter, hell even now, SPRAY WASH THE HELL OUT OF THAT THING ON THE UNDERSIDE. the 99 SE-L's, for some reason rust very easily. I have one in my garage, a complete waste of a once nice car being parted out because a jackstand went thru the floor!! Softball size holes in the trunk and falling apart.

Third - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch out for rust, spray the underside of the car and if any rust bubbles up get it taken care of. 1 bad winter w/ a lot of salt on the roads, being a daily driver, without washing it, that's the end of the car. rust has killed more SE-L's than anything else. probably double the percentage of B13's relative to the #'s made

BTW once the rust gets to a certain level theres no going back unless you want to spend $5 grand on a car worth half that.
